Many tenants focus on boxes, furniture, and paperwork while leaving cleaning until the last minute. Unfortunately, landlords and property managers notice the details—inside appliances, cabinet shelves, light fixtures, and bathroom surfaces. A simple checklist can make the difference between a full deposit return and unexpected deductions.

WHAT LANDLORDS NOTICE FIRST.
Property managers typically inspect kitchens, bathrooms, floors, walls, and appliances before anything else. Grease inside ovens, stains on carpets, dusty vents, and neglected cabinets are among the most common reasons deposits are reduced. Taking care of these areas before inspection dramatically improves your chances of a smooth handover.
TRY THIS
Before handing over the keys, open every cabinet, drawer, and appliance once. If you spot dust, crumbs, or residue, chances are the inspector will too.
THE FINAL WALK-THROUGH RULE.
Schedule a final walk-through after all furniture and boxes have been removed. Empty rooms reveal dirt, scuffs, and dust that are easy to miss while moving. Check walls, corners, closets, window tracks, and behind doors before considering the job finished.An extra 30 minutes of inspection can save hundreds in deposit deductions.
